New Google+, Same Twitter and 10,000 of Facebook Love
Hot on the heals of reaching 10,000 followers on Facebook, MilkandCookies got and account on Google+. And though it started to grow very quicky, it was summarily suspended for not representing a real person.
No big deal, after I set up the MilkandCookies Google+ page I had read that Google was going to release pages for websites and other non-person entities. Truth is, I found it cumbersome to get MilkandCookies links onto the Google+ profile.
That being said, I think Google+ is totally going to kick Facebook’s ass.
Like sites like Yahoo! and AOL, Facebook really needs everyone to stay on their site, which is why they allow people to write apps and put their own sites into Facebook’s domain. They make money via page views after all.
Google doesn’t need you to stay on Google+. In fact, they haven’t even called it a social networking site. It’s Google with social features (Google plus social -> Google Plus!). Google just wants everyone to be on the web because Google is all over the web.
But Facebook was a threat because Google is outside the Facebook castle walls. And the castle was growing. Google doesn’t need to be Facebook, Twitter (or Tumblr for that matter). It just needs to make sure that no one else gets a monopoly.
MilkandCookies will continue to have a presence on Facebook, Twitter (and now Tumblr) and addition to our goal to be a part of Google+ — and the next thing and the next thing.
Looking forward to celebrating the 10,000 people party on Facebook — and some day maybe as many on Google+.
